The Lovat male line

It is unusual to maintain a breeding line through the male side of a family tree, but we have done this with a line of home bred bulls that originated with Loch Awe Lovat who was born in 1996. Lovat was sired by the Australian bull Belmore Uptown who also sired our Perth Champion Lysander, Lovats dam was Balmyle Opal 12th, an outstanding brood cow who was moderate sized, deep bodied and showed great breed character. She was the originator of our Venus Opal line.
In 1999 Loch Awe Prince of Darkness was born , by Lovat out of Loch Awe Primrose 2nd. the Primrose family have also gone on to be one of our very best families.
Prince of Darkness sired Dunsyre Troubadour who was born in 2002. His dam was Dunsyre Nettle a family that has gone on to excel for Chapelton amongst others.
Before we sold Troubadour he sired Dunsyre Yorkie. We kept Yorkie from 2005 to 2010 .
Dunsyre Dreadnought was born in 2010 and is now a well established herd sire who has sired 67 calves for us. He is out of Dunsyre Venus Opal 2nd who has been one of our best ever cows. Her grand dam is Lovat's dam.
We have concentrated with this line in breeding for moderate size, great depth and gut capacity, perfect feet and locomotion , easy fleshing and great breed character. Dunsyre Hamlet, born in 2015 looks like being the next of this line to carry these traits forward.
